As a qualified journalist for the Mercury Newspaper in 1997, Ms. Makwakwa’s was promoted within eight months of her employment, to a Political Reporter. By the end of 1999, Ms. Makwakwa had become the youngest and only female in the Group’s Political Bureau, at the Independent Newspaper Group in Parliament, Cape Town, as a Political Correspondent.
